What’s Happening In Social Media

Twitter got hacked!

EXPLAIN!

On Wednesday of last week, Hackers posted similar messages to the accounts of Jeff Bezos, Kim Kardashian, Elon Musk and other verified accounts. The message went something like this one posted to Floyd Mayweather’s account:

“I’m giving back to my community due to COVID-19!

All Bitcoin sent to my address below will be sent back doubled. If you send $1,000, I will send back $2,000!”

YIKES! HOW MANY ACCOUNTS WERE HACKED?

130

WHO DID IT?

The question everyones’ asking.

You can read twitter’s update of the incident here.

You can also follow along as the investigation continues, here.

World Emoji Day!

THAT’S A THING?

If you’re asking, you already missed it.

July 17th celebrated World Emoji Day, and Facebook celebrated by adding new emojis to its default emoji pack within messenger. Google also celebrated with the release of new emojis that will be released with the Android 11. Apple has also shared a preview of new emojis that will be added to iOS.

Something To Pay Attention To

The App Industry

It's as hot as ever, with a record 204 billion downloads and $120 billion in consumer spending in 2019. According to TechCrunch, people are now spending three hours and 40 minutes per day using apps, rivaling TV. Apps aren’t just a way to pass idle hours — they’re a big business. In 2019, mobile-first companies had a combined $544 billion valuation, 6.5x higher than those without a mobile focus.

OTL takeaway: Digital content is hotter than ever and the temperature is only rising! How to beat the heat? Make an app for that.
